Occupational
Therapy & Physiotherapy -
Sarah Small, Physiotherapy and
Occupational Therapy Services Manager |
| |
|
The
Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy Department at the James
Paget Healthcare NHS Trust is a constantly evolving and forward
looking department. It aims to deliver the best quality patient
care, develop effective working relationships both within
and outside the Trust, and to ensure that the unique and valuable
contribution therapists can make to health care is broadcast
far and wide.
Our occupational therapists and physiotherapists work together
in specialist teams with one Team Leader. Our clinical teams
comprise:
- Paediatrics
- Integrated
Discharge Team
- Stroke
- Acute
Medicine
- Cardio-Respiratory-Surgery
- Orthopaedics
- Women’s
Health
- Palliative
Care
- Back
Pain Service
Integration of occupational therapy and physiotherapy brings
with it the following benefits: firstly and most importantly,
the patient receives a more co-ordinated treatment package
and better quality of care. Therapy has a stronger voice united
as one team, directly sharing in journal clubs, in-service
training and case reviews. Both professions benefit from a
greater breadth of learning. Core knowledge and skills between
the professions are identified and training addressed consistently
and more efficiently across both groups. A better understanding
is developing between the professions of what is unique about
occupational therapy and physiotherapy. Communication has
become more efficient as joint staff meetings and team meetings
mean that information is passed on less frequently.
We have recently introduced Therapy Assistant Practitioner
(Band 4) and Therapy Assistant (Band 2) roles into our core
inpatient teams. These support staff are able to carry out
both occupational therapy and physiotherapy components of
patient care.
We offer rotational opportunities at Band 5 and 6 and constantly
review our staffing skill mix and structure to meet the changing
service needs alongside the development needs of staff. Our
department is welcoming and friendly, and has strong links
with our local PCT and Social Services partners.
If you want to know more, or wish to know what current or
forthcoming vacancies we may have, then please contact Sarah
Small, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy Services Manager.

| |
| Finance
- Russell Pearson, Deputy Director of Finance |
|
Professional
finance staff within the James Paget Healthcare NHS Trust
must be equipped with a wide range of skills. Not only would you need to use sound
analytical skills, you also need to be able to communicate
effectively with members of staff at all levels - whether
that is delivering a presentation to a 20-strong audience
within a Directorate meeting, or explaining a financial query
on a one to one basis with a budget holder. Written skills
must also be a strong point, with the capability to produce
interesting and informative monthly reports.
An alternative
financial route is the area of Financial Accountancy, whereby
the accuracy of the Trust's financial transactions must be
maintained. Only with this safeguard will the Trust be able
to report its financial position confidently. These staff
will be responsible for producing monthly reports that are
ultimately presented to the Trust Board, plus the annual accounts
that reflect the performance of the Trust to date.
Project-based
staff may be looking at developing the latest Business Case,
such as the ITU scheme. Finance staff must become immersed
within the department being developed, establishing sound
working relationships with all staff, whilst understanding
the clinical practices and benefits that the new development
could bring. Information must be assessed to build up the
total cost of the new scheme, both now and in the future.
