| PALS:
Patient Advice & Liaison Service |
| |
| PALS
are here to help |
|
PALS supports
patients, relatives, carers and members of the public who
need information about the healthcare system. We answer general
enquiries about the healthcare services available, resolve
problems you may have by identifying the right people to talk
to, and explain how you can make a complaint if your concern
is unresolved.
The service
is confidential and we will not speak to anyone about you
unless you give us permission to do so. We are there to encourage
and enable you to make decisions about your healthcare.
|
| |
|
|
| Being in
Hospital or caring for someone who is having treatment can be
difficult, confusing and stressful. PALS can find the correct
route to help. |
| |
| Mrs
Liz Barber - PALS coordinator |
| Liz is
the person you will normally speak to when you need the help
of the PALS team. |
| |
| Miss
Zoe Tovell - Duty Officer |
| Zoe is
a duty officer and she covers when the coordinator is not available.
|
| |
| How
to contact PALS |
| Our direct
dial telephone number from outside the Trust is 01493
453240. Our Fax no is 01493
452078. Our internal extension number is 3240.
You can email us at PALS@jpaget.nhs.uk
|
| |
| If you
can't get through on this number, a PALS duty officer is on-call
within office hours on bleep 1621.
The James Paget Hospital switchboard (01493
452452) can contact the duty officer for you using
this bleep. |
| |
| If you
are in the main foyer, the yellow telephone which is on display
is to contact PALS. Pick up the phone and press the button.
You will automatically be connected to one of our duty officers. |
| |
| The
PALS team will listen carefully to what you have to tell them |
|
An appointment
can be made for face to face consultation or we might be able
to answer your query over the phone. PALS
tries hard to be fully accessible. Please tell us your needs
and we will do our best to meet them.
|
| |
| We will
support, encourage and empower you to deal with things for yourself
wherever possible by: |
| |
- Helping
you identify the key points of your concerns
- Helping
you identify what you would like done to resolve the concerns
- Providing
information and suggesting things that might help
- Helping
you plan what to do next
- Helping
identify who can advise, represent and support you
- If
necessary we can help you explain your position to anyone
involved in your care and negotiate on your behalf
|
|
|
| Patient
Involvement (Putting your expertise to good use) |
| The James
Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has patient
and carer groups and other listening and decision making bodies.
We can arrange for you to be part of one of these groups. Your
knowledge and experience of the James Paget Hospital could help
us to help you or your friends and relatives. If you want to
become involved, for example by helping to design information
leaflets or joining Trust committees, please e-mail PALS@jpaget.nhs.uk
or telephone 01493 453240. |
| |
| We also
seek patients views on health topics and publish a newsletter
about our activities. We aim to promote better understanding
of patients and carers. We contribute to staff training and
use our experience or what you tell us to influence change in
systems, policies and procedures throughout the Hospital Trust. |
